Ironic that such a quote would come from John Adams, considering that during his term as President, he was much more dictatorial than any of the other early Presidents. For example, the Sedition Act, pushed by his party and which he supported, would have made it a crime to even criticize the President (by which standard, you and I would certainly be in prison by now).
