We need your help: will you "stand in" for one of the 200,000 people killed, harmed or displaced in Darfur?

By signing the petition you will represent one of Darfur’s victims and voice your objection to the ongoing slaughter in that country. We will present the final list of names to President George Bush and to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The situation in Darfur is getting worse. Just this week, the Sudanese government prevented the United Nations' top humanitarian official from visiting Darfur where he was going to survey the humanitarian toll.

And, since we started this petition two weeks ago, Dr. Mudawi Ibrahim Adam, a Sudanese advocate with whom we work closely, was told that the government is closing down two of his organization’s offices in west Darfur. His group, SUDO, is one of Sudan’s last remaining human rights groups operating in Darfur.

Urgent efforts to bring peace to the region are needed now. Human Rights First is calling for a U.N. appointed diplomat of the highest international stature to re-energize the peace process in Darfur.

Help bring HOPE to Darfur; become one of the more than 14,000 people who have signed the petition so far. Please click here to stand in for a victim and watch our short movie about the Darfur crisis. We are seeking to get 200,000 caring people to sign their names – so after you sign, please forward this petition to ten friends today.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much for posting this. Thousands die while the world sits back and does nothing. I don't understand...
