White House Rejects Manadatory CO2 Caps

At some point Americans are going to have to hold their nose and take their medicine and accept that there will be drastic change and sacrifice required of all of us to reverse the trend of global warming. I for one don't believe Americans are willing to do that. I think we are so in love with our toys and self indulgent lives to change. That's why Bush has been able to get away with some of the outrageous things that he has over the years is because people basically don't care as long as their no affected. People are going to have to be MAJORLY affected if we are going to save the planet. This will require a strong leader who will be able to talk straight and get citizens on board. It's a crap shoot - but doing nothing is not an option.

Despite a strongly worded global warming report from the world's top climate scientists, the Bush administration expressed continued opposition Friday to mandatory reductions in heat-trapping "greenhouse" gases.

Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman warned against "unintended consequences" - including job losses - that he said might result if the government requires economy-wide caps on carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.

"There is a concern within this administration, which I support, that the imposition of a carbon cap in this country would - may - lead to the transfer of jobs and industry abroad (to nations) that do not have such a carbon cap," Bodman said. "You would then have the U.S. economy damaged, on the one hand, and the same emissions, potentially even worse emissions."
