A Glorious Day

I flew home from work this evening like a bat out of hell anxious to see all the news reels about the events of this glorious day. As I watched Nancy Pelosi take the helm as Speaker of the House I was suddenly and unexpectedly moved to tears. I was quite surprised to have such an emotional response.

This was
a day so many of us have hoped for, prayed for and worked very hard for - and yet secretly feared would never come. We thought the deck had been so stacked against us that we'd never be able to wrest power away from the Republicans. I feared the apathy of the public coupled with the voting problems were obstacles too great to be overcome. Thankfully, I was wrong. The Bush Administration overplayed their hand and the slumbering masses were roused from their sleep by the blood of our soldiers and said "ENOUGH"!

The tears I shed today were tears of relief and tears of gratitude. I am grateful for all of those who worked to make today possible and for those who recognized that something far more important than a political party was at stake. I am relieved that our democracy still functions and that we have an opportunity to change course and to restore America to it's greatness so that once again, we can be, a beacon of light onto the world. I am grateful to live in such a great country. We have so many blessings here in America that we take for granted.

I have never felt more patriotic than I did today. I NOW understand just how precious and fragile our democracy really is. We must remain vigilant to protect it from ALL enemies. Foreign and domestic.
