I don't understand your point. The people are SUPPOSED to be the government but that's not what's going on now with all their secret doings. The point of the quote is if people aren't vigilant...the government will start doing things that we don't want the government to do. This administration has gotten away with a hell of a lot because "PEOPLE" for the most part have been very lazy, complacent, negligent of their duties as citizens... and have remained ignorant and ill informed - by choice.
If you think quotes from historical figures are reflective of people 'yelling about loosing your rights' - and that they have nothing to offer us from a historical perspective --- then I don't know what to tell you. We are a young country - and its not wise to ignore history. To think it can't happen here - is nonsense and the very founders of this nation warned us of that.
All I know to say is that, to me, the government currently is smirky mama's boy bush the LIAR and Snarlin' Dick, the defacto warmonger & profiteer.

That's called an observation, not an argument. So which one of us knows nothing?
Foget morality as this (MIS)administration has none. Their power is retained through absolute corruption. There are no checks and balances today. They simply "hold in check". They have control over all three branches of the government and bush has declared himself "above the law" (and not just our law, but international law as well) many times and in no uncertain terms.
The Lord duh-bya and his boss, "Go Fuck Yourself" Cheney have a clear stranglehold on my nation. Worst of all, they are public LIARS, fearmongerers & warmongerers and obviously profiteers.
If you find offense to the truth that I speak, then I simply consider you the enemy in this nation that is MORE DIVIDED than it was in 1860. And before you laugh that off, you had best consider the population difference between now and then and consider the handful of issues versus the hundreds, if not thousands of issues today. We just don't have the geographic boundaries that were drawn then, is all.
There is one thing that the bush supporters have to admit. The division. If it weren't true there would not be members of the blind acceptance population online trying to defend their dear leader, his actions and inactions.
re your quote....he neglects to mention those who don't THINK - that would be that 38% group of people who watch FNN, listen to the Limbaughs and Hannity's and still believe Saddam had something to do with 9/11. The same group of people who keep telemarketers in business.
