When America is fighting a global war on terror where the battle is for hearts and minds instead of beachheads and landing strips, we need a leader who can explain to friend and foe alike why America is in Iraq, why we keep sending arms to Israel and why liberal democracy really is preferable to Islamic fascism.
Right now, George W. Bush is not that leader.

i see that you are back and rested! i would love to explain why liberty is better than fascism- but i am not running. there is not one whit of difference in christian fascism and islamic fascism. fascism is fascism. someone should explain that to the mussolinis in washington right now.
Wow.
Why America is in Iraq: Because it was a place the trained, harbored, paid, and encouraged terrorists to attack the U.S. at home and abroad.
Why we keep sending arms to Israel: because they are our only true ally and the only real democracy in the middle east.
Why liberal democracy really is preferable to Islamic fascism: all adult citizens can vote. Women can drive, get medical care, learn to read, wear comfortable clothes. You are allowed to be whatever religion you choose. Rapists instead of rape victims are punished for rape. You can read what you like. You have freedom of speech. And assembly. And all those other bill of rights things. No one in their right mind could argue that Islamic fascism is a preferable situation. . .
Interesting. The President first uttered the words "Islamic Facisim" less than a week ago and you have already incorporated that into your own talking points. Which tells me you are either a pol operative or get all your talking points from FNN, Rush, Bill O, etc. The correct term would me Islamofacism which is actually a political epithet - also known as propoganda!!!!! They are crafted to elicit a response from those hearing or reading them. By Combining a term identifying a group with a pejorative necessarily creates an association between the group and the pejorative. This claim is arguably based on a associationistic view of human cognition. This is the basis of many standard techniques in public relations; the use of an epithet by persons trained in public relations techniques is interpreted as an attempt to create such an association while maintaining deniability: a subtle example of the fallacy of equivocation.
Your historical points are incorrect. America is not in Iraq because they trained and harbored terrorists. We are in Iraq because we were told they were a threat and had ties to terrorists and were going to send little planes with chemical weapons to our borders in the immediate future. All of those points are factually incorrect.
As far as Israel and bombs and the weapons we provide --- dear reader, we are despised for our foreign policies NOT because of our freedoms and comfortable clothes. Every time Israel drops a bomb on a muslim country - its the same as if we dropped the bombs. This does nothing to curb terrorism -- it only feeds it. Until we recognize and address THAT we will be contributing to the rise of terrorisim in the world not doing anything to curb it.
I think the people of Iraq would prefer to have Saddam in power than to live under the nightmare we have created for them. We will be leaving Iraq. It's only a matter of time - and we won't be leaving it better than we found it.
I don't know, I think the Islamic Middle East has a long history of hating Europe/America, or "the west," I guess. For example, in the Marine Hymn, "from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli," refers to middle eastern aggression on the Mediterranean back in the 1800s. We fought them there as well.
In another post I was accused of being a right wing pol, getting my talking points from Rush or whatever, not so.
I don't think the terrorism would stop if we gave Israel up and let the surrounding nations conquer it.
I think the main difference now is, they have a lot of money to pursue their agenda, because of oil sales over the last 50-75 years.
......as do we (have money to pursue an agenda!) I think what good people believe about America and what is true about what our government has done in our name - are polar opposits of one another. Please consider we are in Iraq not because of terrorisim as was sold to us --- but because of an agenda. An agenda that has met more resistence than was thought. Didn't mean to accuse you of anything but the term Islamic Facisism is new to the scene and is being over used by those on the right. Thanks for contributing.
The whole thing is based on the biggest LIE ever perpetrated on the sheep of our country by bush and his neo-con cronies.
The United States military invaded and is now occupying Iraq for one reason: OIL.
It doesn't matter how many human lives it costs or that it will bankrupt the United States. This is why most of the deployed troops are "guarding" the oil fields and only a few thousand are trying to control the city of Baghdad and other urban areas.
Its called quagmire and as long as the oil "men" can "line their pockets" here, the U.S. military will remain as an occupying force.
Our military resources are spread severely thin right now. Recruitment is down. Back door drafts are up. The enlistment age gets raised every few months- I think we're up to 42 years now. Yet bush & Rumsfeld just recently told us that we will be there for years to come and possibly a decade or more.
AND THIS IS WHY DICTATORS LIKE KIM JONG IL CAN SPIT RIGHT IN bUSH'S FACE.
So what's the agenda? I see the bumper stickers saying our agenda was to get the oil over there. But we aren't getting any so I find that hard to believe.
