-Ernesto became the first hurricane of the Atlantic season Sunday with winds of 75 mph, and forecasters said it would strengthen as it headed toward the Gulf of Mexico, where it could menace a wide swath of coastline including New Orleans. DETAILS

-Democratic Party leaders want a former candidate for attorney general who denies the Holocaust occurred to stay out of their future primaries. The party's executive committee passed a resolution Saturday informing Larry Darby that "he is not welcome in the Alabama Democratic Party." Darby, the founder of the Atheist Law Center, responded by saying the vote shows that the state party's leadership is "intellectually and morally bankrupt." "This is the typical heavy-handed behavior of the Alabama Democratic Party for the last 30 years," Darby said. "They're censoring me for having the wrong views." (Larry, it's not because you have the "wrong " views - it's because you're an idiot! You're not being CENSORED - you can say whatever you want to - you just can't do it as a card carrying member of the Democratic party! You can still call yourself a Democrat. Joe Lieberman does. Perhaps you should considering joining the Nazi Party since your beliefs are more in line with theirs. ) DETAILS

-About 700 demonstrators marched past the seaside church where President Bush's second cousin was to be married Saturday and then up to the checkpoint guarding the family summer compound to protest the war in Iraq. DETAILS
