Today's Details
-In a sudden blow to the nation's oil supply, half the production on Alaska's North Slope was being shut down Sunday after BP Exploration Alaska, Inc. discovered severe corrosion in a Prudhoe Bay oil transit line. Once the field is shut down BP said oil production will be reduced by 400,000 barrels a day. That's close to 8 percent of U.S. oil production as of May 2006 or about 2.6 percent of U.S. supply including imports, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. (So how come they haven't been maintaining these lines with the BILLIONS of dollars worth of record profits they've been making? Reinvesting in the pipelines to make sure this kind of shit doesn't happen would seem like the prudent thing to do - but NOOOOOO - They've been livin' large! Now prices will go up to finance the repairs. Had enough?) DETAILS
- The National Security Agency is running out of juice. The demand for electricity to operate its expanding intelligence systems has left the high-tech eavesdropping agency on the verge of exceeding its power supply, the lifeblood of its sprawling 350-acre Fort Meade headquarters, according to current and former intelligence officials. (Gee, maybe they'll have to stop listening to our phone calls!!!!) DETAILS

-The Bush administration insists Iraq is a long way from civil war, but the contingency planning has already begun inside the White House and the Pentagon. President Bush will move U.S. troops out of Iraq if the country descends into civil war, according to one senior Bush aide who declined to be named while talking about internal strategy. "If there's a full-blown civil war, the president isn't going to allow our forces to be caught in the crossfire," the aide said. "But institutionally, the government of Iraq isn't breaking down. It's still a unity government." (I guess by THAT definition - our own civil war was not a civil war because the government was still intact. Whether they admit it or not, the reality is our forces are already caught in the crossfire of a civil war. The game is over. We lost. Bring them home NOW.) DETAILS
-That Rudy Giuliani intends to run for president has been confirmed by one of the former New York mayor's closest Republican friends. He said Giuliani definitely is running. DETAILS
