Republicans said they were the BEST on National Security, but with all the cuts to Homeland Security (especially to NYC and Washington DC) and the terrorist training ground/recruitment poster that is Iraq, I'd rather have a guard dog and a flashlight than these bastards.

The problem is that the conservatives are too narrow to think about the big picture. They are correct that we need to increase funding in places prone to natural disasters (see last year's news), but they believe that the budget must be static, so a dollar sent, for example, to the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta to help get ready for the Bird Flu, must be deducted from the budget elsewhere.
As such, Republicans fall victim to their own ideology. What we need is the ability to spend what is needed where it is needed, but that would go against their whole philosophy of goverment.
I put together a blog post on this so I won't bore you with all of my thoughts here, but suffice to say that it is more complicated than just cuts to NYC (although a cut is a cut is a cut).
There is simply no need for the type of national security that their party's fearmongering leads the sheeple to believe.
I'm reminded of the Nazi party's fierce nationalism.
