House Closer on Price-Gouging Penalties
The House moved toward approval Wednesday of a bill that would impose criminal penalties and fines of up to $150 million for energy companies caught price gouging.
The legislation, expected to be voted on later in the day, gained bipartisan support as lawmakers searched for ways to respond to public outrage over soaring gasoline prices and huge oil industry profits.
