Here's a message from NDP President Mark Green:
Dear Friend,
I'm pleased to announce that NDP and other leading progressive organizations are hosting a major colloquium on Bush and democracy called SAVING OUR DEMOCRACY on SATURDAY, JANUARY 21 at COOPER UNION'S GREAT HALL.
This will be the leading pro-democracy event in 2006. We're bringing together some of the best authors and advocates on democracy issues for a full day of exchanges and to lay out a "Contract for Democracy." Click here for the complete schedule and speaker lineup.
Obviously, we're not in China or Uzbekistan where protesters are shot in the streets, but we are far from an ideal democracy when: secrecy trumps disclosure in the White House; voter suppression in black precincts across the country seems the norm, not the exception; the ratio of CEO to employee pay has gone from 40:1 in the 1960s to 500:1 today; people of talent without fortunes stop seeking elective office because they can't compete with multi-millionaires buying public office with private money; ideology defeats science in public decisions; and religious McCarthyism speaks so loudly in the public square.
Tickets are available here or by phone at (877) 725-8849.
Best,
Mark Green
President, New Democracy Project
