Sunday Shows 10/2/05

MEET THE PRESS NBC
The War in Iraq: Are we making progress? When will American troops come home? We will ask the top U.S. military commander in Iraq, General John Abizaid, the head of U.S. Central Command, on this Sunday's "Meet the Press with Tim Russert." Gen. Abizaid is in Washington, D.C., to meet with President Bush and to brief Congress on the status of the war in Iraq. This Sunday, he will be on the "Meet the Press" set to share the very latest outlook for coalition forces and intelligence on the insurgency.

Then, how will Wednesday's indictment of then-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay affect the congressional agenda and the 2006 elections? With us, in an exclusive interview, the chairmen of both congressional campaign committees, DCCC Chairman, Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D - IL), and NRCC Chairman Rep. Tom Reynolds (R - NY).

And in our "Meet the Press" roundtable, Dan Balz of the Washington Post and John Harwood of the Wall Street Journal discuss the very latest in the CIA leak investigation, corruption charges and the Republican Party, and the politics of President Bush's next Supreme Court pick.

THIS WEEK ABC

Gen. George Casey, the U.S. Army four-star general leading the troops in Iraq, joins George Stephanopoulos for a rare in-studio interview this Sunday. They'll discuss this week's shocking admission before Congress of a major decline in readiness of Iraqi forces. Is this a critical backslide for the U.S.? With the vote on the new Iraqi constitution only two weeks away, we'll ask the general: When will U.S. troops start coming back home?

On the eve of the Supreme Court's new term, Justice Stephen Breyer joins George Stephanopoulos for an exclusive preview and a discussion of his new book, "Active Liberty: Interpreting Our Democratic Constitution."

George Will, Linda Douglass and Terry Moran debate New York Times reporter Judith Miller's release from prison and the implications for the CIA leak investigation, plus Tom DeLay's indictment and the politics behind the next Supreme Court nominee.
